The Republic of Chad is an independent state formerly part of French Equatorial Africa. It is bounded on the north by Libya, on the east by Sudan, on the south by Central African Republic and on the west by Cameroon, Nigeria and Niger. A member of the French Community and the UEAC, it is also associated with the EU through the Lome Convention.
